Many companies claim to use the Project Management Institute’s best practices and methodologies, but once you look closer, you’ll notice that most of them have little or no set standards centered on project management excellence and project roll out. This can lead to projects running over budget, past deadlines and produce a product which the end customer really didn’t ask for in the first place.
At Apprenda, we adhere to strict project management methodologies. We take this systematic and time-proven approach because we believe it will always ultimately reward a customer with a project that is a complete success (completed on time, within budget and within scope).
For those not familiar with the project management world, a project is typically “a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result.” Projects are a means of organizing activities that cannot be addressed within the organization’s normal operational limits. Projects are, therefore, often utilized as a means of achieving an organization’s strategic plan.
Every successful project should have at least the following components:
1. Project Charter – Authorizing a project (includes funding)
2. Scope Statement – Includes only the work required to successfully complete the project (and only that work)
3. Project Management Plan – Documenting the tasks and milestones to be assigned, worked and completed
4. Project Execution – Performing the work
5. Monitor and Control – Make sure you are meeting the performance objectives
6. Change Control – Controlling changes to the deliverables & organizational process assets
7. Close Project – Includes lessons learned for the next project

At the end of the day, we want to achieve total integration management, which includes unification, consolidation, articulation, and integrative actions that are crucial to project completion. These PM standards can help meet customer and stakeholder requirements and manage expectations.
