By Atos Apprenda Support

Good morning everyone! Do you know what day it is?

Be the Cloud You Want to Use
“…The reality is that shadow IT (or whatever you want to call it) exists because current infrastructure is not as flexible, easy to use or as fast to provision as that in the cloud. Neither does existing licensing and billing for on-premise solutions meet the current, just-in-time attitude associated with cloud and agile business models. Ultimately, what DevOps seeks to achieve is accelerated application deployment. That’s why cloud in all its forms – public, private and hybrid – continue to gain mindshare, traction and customers… it’s important for critical are able to be deployed both on-premise and in the cloud with equal alacrity and, one hopes, with the same capabilities.Via Lori MacVittie, F5 Networks

Forrester: CIOs at Risk of Multimillion-Dollar Liabilities’ Over Mobile Software Licenses
Software licenses for mobile users are a “grey area” legally, opening enterprises up to mounting costs unless a compromise with vendors is made, Forrester has warned… Although software vendors have forecast that their spoils from maintenance support will grow, the reality is that companies are seeing diminishing maintenance budgets against increasing demands for technology to improve customer service…Increasing mobile users are blurring the definition of what constitutes a separate user license, as software vendors like Oracle and SAP attempt to capture revenue from businesses’ new mobile projects..” Via Margi Murphy, CIO

Amazon Looms Over Rackspace Sale
It’s not easy competing with Amazon in the cloud, as Rackspace has learned. A month ago, Rackspace announced that it had retained Morgan Stanley after having “been approached by multiple parties who have expressed interest in a strategic relationship with Rackspace, ranging from partnership to acquisition.”…The problem is that Amazon dominates cloud services and is pushing others to the wayside…bankers wondered about Rackspace’s mention of the possibility of forming partnerships in its exploration of alternatives. It was unusual terminology to use in a statement about exploring alternatives, the second banker said, and might indicate that alliances are more logical and easier to achieve than a takeout.” Via Sarah Cohen, Forbes

Enterprises want to move into hybrid cloud services now and will probably spend the next several years making that move, according to Mathew Lodge, VP of cloud services at VMware. It won’t be an instant transition. He says that VMware, unlike Amazon, Google, or Microsoft, is in a good position to help them do so.Via Charles Babcock, InformationWeek
