Businesses, individuals honored during third annual Downtown Troy BID dinner

…Seven well-deserving business owners and business community supporters were the inaugural Sammy recipients.

Each awardee was presented a custom sculpted Uncle Sam statuette trophy, created by local artist Jack Shaefer, designed to look similar to an Oscar statue. In addition to the three awards the BID traditionally honors, which are Established Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, and Community Spirit Award, it added a Sammy Citizen Award, a Friend of the BID, a Sammy Vision Award, and a Revitalize Troy Award. …

With about 30 new businesses opening each year, there were many contestants for the title of New Business of the Year. Wednesday night it was awarded to Apprenda, Inc., a River Street tech business focused on enterprise computing.
