CLIFTON PARK, NY –- Apprenda, creator of Apprenda, the first software as a service application server eliminating the difficulties of building and delivering SaaS, today announced Devon Watson as its new director of Business Development. Watson will be responsible for leading Apprenda’s partner and alliance channel programs. Watson joins Apprenda with an extensive background in SaaS entrepreneurship dating back to 2002, and as a technology investor with leadership roles in venture capital funds.
Prior to joining Apprenda, Watson was Vice President at High Peaks Venture Partners (HPVP), a venture capital firm in Troy, New York. HPVP led Apprenda’s initial funding in 2008 and participated in Apprenda’s recently announced $5 million investment round which included Baltimore-based New Enterprise Associates. New Enterprise Associates (NEA) has been a frontrunner in SaaS, funding other companies such as Salesforce.com, WebEx and Juniper Networks.
“Apprenda is pioneering an entirely new way to distribute applications for ISVs and enterprises,” said Sinclair Schuller, CEO of Apprenda. “For our Apprenda partners and customers, we continually strive to simplify the complex technology behind SaaS while delivering enhanced capabilities to make them successful SaaS providers and businesses. Devon has an existing knowledge base and network that will enrich our sales channels and alliance partnerships as well as forge ahead with new ones.”
Watson co-founded of one of the first SaaS implementations of business intelligence and analytics, called Prospina Systems. Earlier he worked as a technology consultant helping senior enterprise business managers to select and implement technology solutions for business problems. Devon also managed joint sales efforts with major ISV’s and was a frequent speaker at software user groups, seminars and conferences.
“I see 2010 as a pivotal year for software companies to prepare to meet the swelling demand for on-demand SaaS delivery options that customers are calling for. As market interest in cloud based services continues to swell, software companies will find that having the right platform from which to deliver their applications will be paramount to their competitive positioning, operational cost and gross margins,” said Devon Watson, Director of Business Development for Apprenda. “Successful software companies will leverage automation and economies of scale in order to thrive in the new SaaS business model. I’m looking forward to working with our alliance partners and sales channels to make Apprenda the backbone of the next wave of leading software vendors.”
Apprenda is the creator of Apprenda, a powerful SaaS Application Server that eliminates the difficulties of building and delivering Software as a Service. Apprenda greatly reduces the barrier to entry for SaaS by overcoming significant technical hurdles like multi-tenancy and grid scalability, while at the same time providing “out of the box” application services like metering and monetization, billing and subscriber management, and much more. This leaves developers with one job: to build on-demand software that meets customers’ needs without worrying about the difficulties of on-demand software architecture.
