Apprenda Joins the Cloud Native Computing Foundation

Apprenda CNCF

Today we’re excited to announce Apprenda has joined the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a founding member.

The Foundation’s goal is to create and drive the adoption of a new set of common container technologies informed by technical merit and end-user value. Thus far, the CNCF has focused on the development of open-source technologies, reference architectures, and shared standards for cloud-native applications or services.

We joined the CNCF alongside some of our partners, including Cisco and NetApp, because it aligns closely with Apprenda’s vision of true interoperability and a pledge to create open tools that don’t create vendor lock-in. In fact, today’s announcement comes only one week after we joined the Open Container Initiative, another Linux Foundation Collaborative Project that is reshaping the technology landscape.

What we’ve learned from our customers is that their desire for interoperability eclipses the OSS discussion. Interoperability ensures customers are free to choose the highest quality solution. As the leader in enterprise PaaS, joining CNCF reaffirms our commitment to interoperability. We intend to work closely with other partners on contributing to this vision.

It’s a component of “cloud agnosticism” but doesn’t by itself guarantee it. By definition, cloud native apps will follow certain principles that will make them more portable.
