Maintaining our presence as the enterprise leader in Private PaaS keeps all of us at Apprenda very busy. It’s a work hard, play hard mentality that we take seriously and this doesn’t stop at the office.
To that end, a few weeks back a delegation of several able-bodied Apprendans heard about a dodge ball tournament that was coming up in Albany, NY, with proceeds going toward a local chapter of the Boys & Girls Club.
Conversation circulated around the office for days, emails landed in in-boxes, a buzz began to build, centered around the need for an answer to a most important question: “Who’s coming with me?”
Eventually, after much debate and office-wide poling, our team was chosen. It wasn’t easy, but we did it–and we were on our way.
After a remarkably quick pre-season, our team took to the field. Were we the biggest team out there? No. The youngest team out there? No. The smartest, most well-prepared, best-dressed team to show their stuff on the court that day? Perhaps. We’ll leave that open to debate.
The end result wasn’t a trophy. At least, not the type that you can put on a shelf. But it was a moral victory of the kind that has everyone involved coming back telling stories to the rest of us who were only there in spirit. We played hard that day, because it’s what we do here.
I always say the best stories are the one you can laugh about with your friends. And hearing everyone talking about it this morning made me wish I had been able to be there too, even if it was only to support my team.
Speaking of which, for anyone interested in supporting this worthwhile cause, you can learn about how to help the Boys & Girls Club of America here.
